Konjac Sponge – Your New Favourite Cleansing Tool
Konjac sponges are 100% natural sponges with a really soft texture, to use as a natural facial and body cleansing sponge. Made out of vegetable fibres from the Konjac root (aka elephant yam). Use it to cleanse, gently exfoliate and nourish skin.
Konjac Sponges have been used in Japan for more than 100 years, they are so gentle the Japanese use them as bath sponges for newborn babies! Due to growing popularity the Konjac Sponge is on the rise as a facial cleansing and body sponge right across the world.
Konjac sponges feel really gentle on the skin, especially compared to other facial exfoliators. A water barrier forms over the surface of the sponge so when you massage your face this barrier protects the skin. You could even describe the feeling of it on your skin as slimy! But we love it, it is unctuous!
Unlike other exfoliators that harm the environment (looking at you microbeads!!), konjac sponges are 100% natural, non-toxic, and compostable / biodegradable.
Use this konjac facial sponge as your morning cleanse, second cleanse, or you could even use it as your primary evening cleanse if you haven’t worn makeup or been exposed to too much pollution etc.
Taking Care of Your Konjac Sponge
Every couple of weeks drop your konjac sponge in very hot (but not boiling) water for about 5 minutes. This will sterilise it, prolonging use.
After around 2-3 months or when your sponge no longer expands properly / starts to disintegrate – it’s time to replace it. You can simply toss it into the garden, or add it to your compostable rubbish, as it is just vegetable root.
Keeping the sponge in the fridge between uses can also prolong its life.
Never leave a child alone with a sponge in case they try and eat it.
100% Konjac sponge.
Konjac sponges are a much gentle form of skin brushing for your face. They are also used to remedy acne, clear blackheads and gently cleanse dry or eczema prone skin. Research shows that konjac sponges may even inhibit the bacteria that produce acne.
When you open the packet you’ll notice the sponge is small and hard – it needs rehydrating before use. Soak it in warm water for around 5 minutes before the first use. After you’ve used it you will only need to hold it under running water for 30 seconds or so before it rehydrates again, expanding to nearly twice its size.
Get the sponge between your palms and gently press your palms together to squeeze out the excess water. Don’t ever over scrunch it as this will damage it. You can add a little cleanser to it but we prefer to just use them as is.
Massage the konjac sponge on your face in upward circular motions. Focus on dry areas or those where blackheads are, you don’t need to press hard for it to do its job. Konjac sponges remove daily dirt with ease, if you want to remove suncream or makeup wth them we’d advise you add some of our cleansing oils to the sponge first.
Rinse the konjac sponge well with water and gently squeeze between your palms again to get rid of the excess water. Hang it to dry using the little string hook that comes in it, you may put it on top of a radiator but not for too long or else it’ll get damaged.
Keep it away from direct sunlight and humid environments – eg don’t leave it hanging in your shower.
