We love Argan oil! We buy our certified organic cold-pressed Argan Oil directly from a Berber family business. There are many women’s cooperatives which have sprung up around this amazing ingredient.
Argan Oil is made from the kernels of the Argan tree, in southwestern Morocco, hence it also being known as Moroccan Oil or Moroccan Gold. Over 2.5 million hectares of land has been made into a biosphere reserve named the Arganeraie Biosphere Reserve in order to preserve the land for Argan tree use, employing and supporting approximately 2.2 million people of the region.
The Argan tree is said to be a tree species from the Tertiary Period (65 million to 1.8 million yrs ago) making it one of the oldest tree species on the planet, it is able to withstand drought and other harsh conditions. Argan oil benefits skin in so many ways it has been used in skincare and also for cooking for millennia in the region, and now is also loved and used worldwide.
The process of extracting the oil from the Argan nuts is an age-old method carried out by the Berber tribe women of Morocco, it is a long multi-stage process. Modern cold-pressing techniques are now used as the funds to buy machinery have become available to some farms, but there are some parts of the process that still have to be done by hand. Women’s cooperatives now exist which ensure payment and autonomy for the women, the establishment of these cooperatives has been supported by various international organisations, and there exists the UCFA (Union des Cooperatives des Femmes de l’Arganeraie) the largest union of Argan oil cooperatives in Morocco.
Argan oil has so many skin & hair benefits! That comes down to its nutrient profile, with vitamins, essential fatty acids, polyphenols, plant sterols, and a little squalene. With a high percentage of oleic acid (up to 43%) Argan Oil aids skin cell regeneration and is softening, and it helps skin to stay supple and youthful. All of these Argan Oil benefits led us to formulate the Divine Blend Treatment Oil around it.
It’s come into the spotlight in recent years and we are sure that it will continue to grow in popularity; it’s a favourite with the stars including Marian Cotillard and Eva Mendes who calls it “spectacular”, we agree! Of course the people of Morocco have used argan oil for skin rejuvenation for many many years, it forms part of their Hammam treatments (oh and if you ever go to Morocco you HAVE to visit a Hammam and get covered in argan oil!).
Argan oil protects skin against environmental damage and by restoring the lipid skin barrier it helps to reduce the signs of ageing whilst promoting skin health. That’s why we made it the featured oil in our award-winning Argan & Sea Buckthorn Face Oil.
You can use Argan oil for skin and hair in multiple & varied ways, that’s why we love it here at Blue Labelle. Here are just 9 of the ways you can use it:
