Chamomile History

Assigned to both the Sun and the Moon depending on the medicinal use in question, Chamomile is an ancient herb synonymous with healing. The ancient Egyptians, Greeks, Romans and Moors all used it in medicinal remedies, and the theory goes that if placed next to a plant that is sick the Chamomile plant will heal it, so it is know as the “plant doctor” – wow!

Chamomile Oil Properties

Organic Chamomile CO2 extract is a fuller profile of the plant, and as it is extracted more gently and at a cooler temperature than the steam distillate it has a fresher scent. Most importantly the Matricin substance within the plant is preserved during CO2 extraction and this holds a superior anti-inflammatory property. The extract we have sourced is made exclusively from flower heads that have been optimised to have a high Matricin and Bisabolol content, resulting in a unique supercritical extract that in tests at 1% was found to be as active as a 0.25% hydrocortisone preparation. In other words, it is a fantastic ingredient for those suffering with dry, itchy and hypersensitive skin conditions.
