Safflower Plant Description
A herbaceous thistle-like annual plant. It is grown commercially for its oil, especially once it was discovered how rich it was in Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs) with up to 80% Omega 6 EFA. There are two types of Safflower Oil – high linoleic (polyunsaturated essential fatty acid) and high oleic (omega 9 monounsaturated fatty acid); Blue Labelle uses the high linoleic type for its great benefit to oily large-pored skin, and also the instant smooth feeling it gives to skin.
The safflower is one of the planet’s oldest cultivated crops. Analysis of ancient Egyptian textiles show dyes made from it, and garlands made from the flowers were found in Tutankhamun’s tomb.
Safflower Oil for Skin
Safflower Oil is light, dry, and rich in Essential Fatty Acids. When skin is deficient in linoleic acid the skin’s sebum can become thick and pores clogged: Safflower Oil’s high linoleic content ensures that the levels in the skin are correct to keep pores clear, calm, and small, making it an excellent oil for oily, combination, dull or congested skin.
Safflower Oil leaves skin glowing, as it is a great moisturiser. It smoothes skin reducing the appearance of wrinkles whilst increasing skin elasticity.
It is also used to treat damaged skin and increase skin’s condition.
